I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. -Psalm 122:1

From the early years until present day,
White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church
has not only been a place of Godly worship,
but it has also been a place of spiritual and physical growth
for its members and community.

From a small gathering of people holding Sunday School at Carter’s School building around 1886,
it was with much prayer and love that White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church was developed.
After a few years of planning and working, prayers were answered, dreams materialized
and a new building was constructed in a grove of white oak trees - thus the name,
White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

The Church was officially organized on November 7, 1910, with fifteen charter members,
and on June 5, 1911, it was dedicated to the Lord. The Reverend J.M. Walter
conducted the morning worship services, which was followed by ‘dinner on the ground’.

Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the Church grew and the small frame structure
became inadequate; therefore, in 1935 plans were made for additional rooms to be added
to the west side of the building which was to be used as Sunday school classrooms.
The years showed continued growth as the love of God worked in the hearts of His people
and this community. With continued blessings, it was decided that a new Church facility
was needed and in September 1956, with two original charter members in attendance,
the Church broke ground for the new building during homecoming services. A mere fourteen
months later, the Church pastor, Reverend Hubert Spoon, lead the first worship service in
the new sanctuary which holds a seating capacity of over 300 and this is where services
continue to the present day. In 1966, a copper steeple was added, greatly enhancing the
beauty of the building in its lovely rural setting. With the Lord giving direction, an educational
building was added in the early 1970's, followed by an outdoor pavilion for fellowship and
functions. In 1990, it was prayed for and decided to build a Fellowship Hall adjoining the Church
where it holds a seating capacity of over 200. Our God loving Christian Church may have
been blessed with a large building, but we are a small country Church at heart.

All Glory and Praise to God, who has and continues to bless the Church body known as
White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
